EcoTrail Wicklow and Pure Join Forces to Keep Wicklow Clean and Pristine

EcoTrail Wicklow is once again teaming up with Pure (Protecting Uplands & Rural Environments) to help protect the spectacular Wicklow landscape ahead of this year’s festival, taking place from 24–26 September.

The partnership will see EcoTrail Wicklow, Pure, volunteers and marshals working together to keep the trails and race routes litter-free, including clean-ups in the lead-up to the event from Bray Seafront towards Roundwood, taking in areas including Bray Head, Belmont, the Great Sugar Loaf and the Wicklow Way.

This year’s collaboration is particularly special as Pure celebrates 20 years of Protecting Uplands and Rural Environments.

Ian Davis, Pure Manager, said: “Pure are delighted to be collaborating again with EcoTrail this year. This is a very important and special year for Pure as we are celebrating 20 years of Protecting Uplands and Rural Environments.

“The Pure Mile has grown every year, starting with five miles back in 2009, and we now have over 1,500 miles. It is fantastic that EcoTrail are again collaborating with Pure and our message is simple: we want both participants and spectators to see Wicklow the way it should be — pure, clean and pristine.”  

Environmental responsibility has been at the heart of EcoTrail Wicklow since the event began, from reducing single-use plastics and encouraging public transport and carpooling to working with Wicklow Wolf Brewing Company on the Tee or Tree initiative.

That commitment continues on race day, when EcoTrail marshals also help keep the routes litter-free. Littering by participants results in automatic disqualification, reinforcing the event’s commitment to leaving Wicklow’s trails exactly as they were found.

With thousands of runners and supporters experiencing the Garden of Ireland during EcoTrail Wicklow, the message from both EcoTrail and Pure is simple: enjoy Wicklow, respect it and leave no trace.
