Coast · Bray Head · promenade

A short, honest taste of Wicklow trails.

Our 10 km race is now in its second year and is the most widely accessible distance in the series — a suitable challenge for everyone, and a way to get ready for the longer races in later years. This year’s route is slightly shortened (down from 10.3 km to 9.8 km) with much more trail and a few more interesting stretches of singletrack than last year. That cuts the tarmac to roughly 1.6 km — just the promenade, out and back.

You begin at the promenade at Bray seafront before climbing the slopes of Bray Head, looking out across the Irish Sea. A small trail then leads you over the secondary Bray summits and down a grassy track toward Cliff Road. Before the road you swing back up to the Bray wall, descend to the main trail, and turn sharply uphill toward Bray.

From the main Bray path you veer left on grass and singletrack. As you contour with the golf club below on your left the trail narrows and drops sharply toward town — watch your feet; it is uneven and narrow. A sharp left takes some momentum out of the descent before a pleasant grass trail past the ruined church known locally as Raheen-a-Cluig. Shortly after, you emerge at the bottom of the main Bray track and return to the finish along the promenade.

The route is mostly hard-packed trail, with three short rocky or grassy sections. The only tarred running is the seafront promenade at the start and finish. A map is provided for general information — it is not for access. Please do not enter private sections of the route outside the race.
